MAYOR OF LONDON AT LUCCHINI UK
On 4th October Lucchini UK received a special visitor - Boris Johnson, Mayor of London and Chairman of Trains for London, which controls London Underground. Boris is a rarity - a popular politician.
That week the Conservative Party was holding its Annual Conference in Manchester, and the Mayor of London gave a key speech with the theme of Government support to UK industry and investment in the country's infrastructure, especially the rail network. But before his speech, he visited Lucchini UK - to see where London Underground's wheels are manufactured.
Bois was keen to see: "real people doing real jobs in industry", in a successful and growing company based in Manchester. His view is that investing in the Capital's rail network has massive spin-off benefits to the rest of the country, so investing in London is of benefit also to the wider economy.
